Coffee & God
I love coffee. I love to smell coffee. I love to drink coffee. I love to talk about coffee. I enjoy grinding beans and using our French Press to make some coffee for my wife and me to drink. I love going to Starbucks and getting a great coffee or coffee drink. I have done research about how to grow my own coffee. I think it would be great to drink a cup of coffee from beans that I planted, grew, roasted and ground. My wife thinks I am crazy and that has so far kept me from planting coffee in my backyard. I am a bit of a coffee-snob. I don't like bad coffee. I like coffee that is full of flavor.Have you ever stopped to ask yourself, "Why did God create coffee?" Maybe you haven't, but I have. Here is the answer: God absolutely adores us so much that He wanted to give us coffee to enjoy so that we would praise His name.
It is not just about coffee. It is about colors and smells and tastes. About feelings, thoughts and imaginations. Our God has created us so amazingly, and most of the time we neglect to praise Him for it. We enjoy music, theater, art, sports, nature and exercise. Yet, we don't praise God's magnificent name for these things.
We tend to categorize things into "sacred" and "secular". However, that is not how God sees it. God created all things, therefore, all things are sacred. Regardless if it's "church related" or not, it is God's; it is sacred.
When we take in the beauty of the fall season (in most places other than Florida), it is cause to praise God. When we bake an apple pie, it is cause to praise God. When we collect a paycheck, it is cause to praise God. When we play with a child, it is cause to praise God. When we admire art, it is cause to praise God. When we eat food, it is cause to praise God.
Don't take things for granted. Don't overlook the common. One day, Emma (my 5 year old daughter) was telling me about pink. She loves pink. I asked her if she knew why God created pink. She said, "No". I told her that God created pink because He knew that she (and millions of others) would love that color, and He created it because He loves her and He wants her to praise Him! She smiled, and we prayed and thanked God for the color pink.
How much does God love you? He loves you so much that He died for your sins to give you a place in heaven. And He loves you so much that He created this world as a spectacular display of His greatness, beauty and love.
I'm going to go finish my coffee and praise God for it.

Brad, that is absolutely the best rationalization for an addiction I have ever heard. Thanks, I will use it wisely.
